Shigaraki Ware Tanuki [Red]

The Fortune Raccoon Dog, or "Tanuki" is said to have the meaning of surpassing others and is traditionally placed under the eaves of a store as a symbol of prosperous business. Each part also has a hidden meaning, called "Eight-fold Enjo."

Hat - protects from unexpected misfortunes.
Eyes - help to pay attention and see things clearly.
Face - friendly, kind and sincere.
Sake Bottle - is blessed with food and drink.
Letters - are a sign of trust.
Belly - is calm and bold.
Money Bag - brings good fortune.
Tail - everything ends well.

Made in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, known as the birthplace of Shigaraki ware. It is one of the oldest pottery production areas in Japan, and one of the six oldest kilns that have been in operation since before the Kamakura period.

Tanuki stands at 12cm
