The Fortune Raccoon Dog, or "Tanuki" is said to have the meaning of surpassing others and is traditionally placed under the eaves of a store as a symbol of prosperous business. Each part also has a hidden meaning, called "Eight-fold Enjo."

Made in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, known as the birthplace of Shigaraki ware. It is one of the oldest pottery production areas in Japan, and one of the six oldest kilns that have been in operation since before the Kamakura period.
